I don't like the idea of being punched in the face, is there an alternative class for me?

There is no reason to be concerned. With boxing/kickboxing no one goes 100% in sparring. Plus, with all the pads, you will be okay. We have two courses: Pro-Am and Fitness. for the fitness side: train like a fighter without any of the risks by punching pads and doing drills on punching bags along with a good dose of cardio drills. Pro-Am side; if you want to peruse a career in the ring, we will get you fit and ready, at first you may not be used to taking punches or kicks at first, but in time it won't even phase you. The option is yours.

BJJ is also very safe, and in sessions half the class is learning techniques and just practicing them slowly and safely, while the other half is about free rolling. The only way to get hurt as a beginner in BJJ is by trying to be a hero and not tapping out when you get caught in a technique.

With wrestling, it's all about technique to get people to the ground. If you are afraid of breaking something while getting wrestled to the ground, then you are in luck. You will be taught how to fall safely.

There really is no more risk in MMA than in any other sport. I would say MMA is way safer, because our instructors are consciously trying to keep our clients from getting hurt. Watch the classes and see how supportive the other participants are of each other and you will ultimately decide whether it's for you or not.

Most importantly, follow your passions! You never know where it can take you

Tips To Help You Get Started In MMA Training

There are two kinds of MMA athletes – those that train for fun and those that train as a career. No matter which kind you’d class yourself as, everyone has to start somewhere. Whether you already know that you want to go on to be an MMA fighter or you’d just like to use it as a way to build muscle, knowing how to start is the key.

Follow these top 10 training tips to get yourself started:

4.) Always stretch

MMA isn’t just about strength; flexibility also plays a big part in this discipline. Stretching after your MMA workouts can help to improve your flexibility, and it’s likely to become one of the easiest parts of your training. You’ll need to keep at it though, as skipping your stretching can quickly put you right back where you started.

3.) Be honest

If you do decide to keep at it, you’ll need to be open and honest about your fitness levels. Your trainer will need to know precisely where you need to begin; otherwise you might end up harming yourself. Don’t worry about being embarrassed – as mentioned, everybody has to start somewhere.

5.) Forget about bodybuilding

Bodybuilding and MMA do not mix. While you do need a high level of strength in order to overpower opponents in the ring, being too built up can drastically limit yourself. Bodybuilding and MMA use completely different techniques, with MMA being fluid and bodybuilding being static and single-jointed. You’ll still need to do some weight training when doing MMA, but you should forget about attained the same kind of bulging muscles as professional weightlifters.

6.) Work on your core

By training your core you’ll be able to increase the power of your punches and kicks. This is because your core is the centre of your being; it’s where all of your strength comes from in the first place. Try hanging leg raises, sit up punches, plank rolls and other core exercises to build up your strength.

7.) Eat the right foods

An MMA fighter’s diet needs to be high in protein, fat and carbohydrates. You’ll need

to take nutritional supplements to increase your protein intake, and make sure you’re

consuming enough calories per day to sustain your training levels. Eat foods such as:

- Turkey

- Eggs

- Fish

- Legumes

- Avocados

- Nuts

- Oils

8.) Be patient

Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, you won’t become an MMA fighter overnight. The worst thing you could possibly do would be to rush into your training and begin doing exercises that are above your ability level. You should always push yourself, but understand that it takes time to build muscle, strength and flexibility.

9.) Get some rest

Getting enough rest following a workout is key to building your strength up. Your body needs time to rejuvenate after a high impact workout; otherwise the muscles you’ve focused on won’t get a chance to build up.

10.) Know your weaknesses

And finally, always understand what your weaknesses are in order to better yourself. Regularly reassess your workout regime so that you can switch and change it depending on which parts of the body you need to work on. Be modest enough to admit to yourself where you need help, and ask for advice from fellow MMA fighters if you think you need some assistance.

Getting into MMA  can be a awesome challenge, especially if you’ve got no idea where to start. With perseverance and continued effort though, you’ll be able to notice the improvements in your body and you will surprise yourself.

Does the gym promote a Family Environment for training ?

We pride ourselves on having a family environment at our dojo.

Our dojo has classes for the entire family. Even family members that don’t train at our school come out and support our competitors.

What are Kick boxing / K-1 classes?

Those students who want to mix it up and learn one of the most effective stand-up fighting systems on earth, can do so here. We offer an ultimate cross-training program for students who wish to cross train in Kickboxing and Grappling.

We have classes that are fun and energetic. There are specific classes designed for the general public that just wants to get a great workout, do cardio conditioning and learn self-defence. We also have separate classes for the student who wishes to actually get in the ring and compete. It does not matter what your objectives are, we will help you reach your desired goals.

Our classes are based on the K1 and Thai Boxing aspects and are presented differently. In kickboxing, there are no 'kata's or 'forms' to learn, its more based on the fitness, cardio, technique and (if pursued) fighting/tournament aspects.

So, we welcome and encourage you to seek the benefits of this modern and inclusive form of fitness, self-defence, and sport.

What is Krav Maga ?

Krav Maga covers any type of attack and violent situation. We encourage members to ask us: "but what if this happens?". The fact is that anything is possible and being able to provide a solution to any situation (within the boundaries of realism) is essential as no two situations are the same. Some of the topics covered in our training are:

Hand-to-hand situations: defences against strikes, kicks, grabs, holds, chokes etc.

Ground fighting: including ground situations with all weapons mentioned.

Defences against handguns from any conceivable situation.

Defences against rape attempts from any conceivable situation.

Defences against knives: stabs, slashes, holds etc.

Defences against any type of long (swing) weapon: sticks, bats, bottles, swords etc.

We invite any person interested in protecting themselves and their families to attend a free, no obligation demonstration at our training facility.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ?

When it comes to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you have come to the right place!

There are many different factors that play into choosing the right school. We feel that the most important factor should be getting what you pay for. What you are paying for should be first-rate instruction and a friendly environment in which to learn. When you train at Lethal Edge MMA, you will be training under highly trained instructors who go through a gruelling instructor training course with head coaches Garry "gloves off' King and Dean “Stormforce” Johnson - affiliated to Rio Grappling club under Master Roberto Atalla. Customer service is one of our main priorities. Whatever you need, our staff will be there to assist you.

One thing that separates our Dojo from all of the others is that we have a specialized system (curriculum) that we teach. This system is one of the secrets to our team’s success. Most Dojo’s have no curriculum and basically the instructors teach whatever may pop into their heads each night for class. We believe in setting short-, intermediate- and long-term goals, and then putting a plan in place to reach each of these goals.

Also Team Lethal Edge MMA doesn’t just concentrate on helping students develop their skills technically and physically, but also MENTALLY!

is Grappling is way to hard ?

Most people think grappling is WAY TO HARD and are hesitant to give it a try. This is the furthest thing from the truth. It is a misconception that people often think that if they come to learn that someone is going to throw them into the Extreme Fighting Championships. WRONG!

Grappling is FUN first and foremost and does not require any previous experience. Anyone can do it; big people, small people, young people, older people, flexible people, non-flexible people, experienced people, non-experienced people, ANYONE.

If you have ever thought that Martial Arts training may be for you, I would urge you to come in and see our program for yourself. I guarantee that you will absolutely love it. We can help meet any of your needs.

We would hate for you to miss out on the many benefits that our students are experiencing RIGHT NOW just because you are a little hesitant to give it a TRY. However, If that is the case, you don’t have to come in to try it, just come in to watch. Isn’t that fair?

Here at Lethal Edge MMA, our Mixed Martial Arts program incorporates several different martial arts and techniques such as Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, grappling, and much more. Although MMA is a combat sport, self-control fairness and respect for your opponent and training partners is greatly enforced and emphasized in our training.

Our experienced instructors are dedicated to giving you the best training possible! Our program includes intense cardio, strength and conditioning workouts as well as drills to learn and improve striking-, kicking- and blocking techniques.

Our carefully developed curriculum allows for our students to learn at their own pace and at the same time feel as though they are progressing on their way to becoming a black belt and beyond. Here at Lethal Edge MMA, we believe becoming a black belt doesn’t just mean wearing the belt; it’s a state of mind that reflects good character which includes a positive attitude, self-control, discipline, good habits, and leadership.

KRAV MAGA - Self Defence Training

Although Krav Maga (Self Defence Training) shares many techniques with other martial arts, such as karate, boxing, savate, kick boxing, Jiu Jitsu, judo, kobudo and wrestling, the training is often quite different. It stresses fighting under worst-case conditions or from disadvantaged positions (for example, against several opponents, when protecting someone else, with one arm unusable, when dizzy, or against armed opponents).

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport, and a self-defence system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. The art was derived from the Japanese martial art of Kodokan judo in the early 20th century.

Lethal Edge MMA’s Boxing coaches will work you into shape utilizing jump rope, pad work, heavy bags, and sparring. Lethal Edge MMA trains both professional and amateur fighters so you can be rest assured that the technique and workouts you will learn are the same as the Pros’.

LEARN HOW TO reduce stress, improve focus and concentration, increase eye/body co-ordination, increase strength, stamina/flexibility, learn humility and respect, BURN BODY FAT & STAY IN SHAPE!

It doesn’t matter what your objective is, we will help you reach your desired goals. We welcome and encourage you to seek the benefits of this modern and inclusive form of fitness, self-defence and sport.
